As a kid, my father was an engineer in the US Coast Guard and we lived on a sailboat. He also loved to work on cars, so I was always around engines.

My freshman year of high school, we moved to Washington and my father became an UTI Admissions Representative. To earn my allowance, I would put together info packets for UTI and MMI. I spent my freshman year reading the info, so it was always in the back of my head. I wanted to become a mechanical engineer but after looking at the placement rate after graduation of traditional colleges versus trade schools, I realized trade schools had better options.

At UTI you more learn how the engines work and how the general systems work. It prepared me to learn in the environment once I found a job. The Instructors were seasoned and had a lot of knowledge. They were all very caring and enjoyed what they did.

UTI gave me the mindset to work in the industry. It opened my eyes to how in-depth being a technician can be. I had my job with Cummins before I graduated and was able to begin my career two weeks later. I felt confident that I had the basic knowledge.

My father raised me with a strong value system. I have a beautiful fiancee. I have a career that has taught me to grow as a person and to be a stronger man. I love my job.

My benefits are great, and I continue to have learning and growth opportunities.

It keeps me hopeful for the future. I would not be here today, making the money that I do, having as much fun as I do — both at work and outside of work — without my UTI education.
